What does success mean to you? A simple question but yet one that requires both mental and spiritual involvement to clearly define your success target. Yet without answering this component in as clear terms as possible where you have 100% clarity of what you want to achieve,

  • how will you know exactly what is you want,
  • will you recognise it if you do get it and most importantly
  • how will you hope to achieve it if you are not totally clear on your own personal definition of success?

Success is not something that just happens but it can be accomplished quite simply by taking a little time to observe, read about and learn from other people who are both personally and professionally successful.

I mention both personally and professionally as we all have different goals and these goals changes throughout our life.

***By doing the same things and implementing the strategies of successful people we will first mimic their success and over time the transition will be seamless as success will come naturally to us. All effort is worthwhile no matter how frustrating things may seem.

Some people equate success with wealth and social status, others with the number of friends and value of friendship and family, others in how well they perform at their career.

Ask others to define what their idea of success is, or go online and do your own searches. What is clear is that each definition has merit and shows a particular direction of follow to become successful. By becoming clear in success, you are less likely to succumb to circumstances which take you off path and are more likely to stay focussed on doing whatever it takes to achieve your goal.

To help define in concrete terms what success means for you, try the following:

  • What can you do that is entirely within your control that will drive you towards success?
  • How can you hold yourself accountable so you know success is within your grasp? If you do not set action deadlines and goal targets within a certain timeframe, how will you ever be able to see and measure progress?
  • What can you do to ensure you are working on this on a daily basis to keep it in your focus at all times?
  • Are you setting too high a standard for success thus making it easy to fail?

Finally by increasing your awareness of success will bring success your way, and now with a greater success consciousness, you will be catapulted towards bigger and more magnificent successes.

It is an approach to implementing strategies that lead you on an expedition to maximising your true potential and which can only be achieved by a deliberate, measureable journey where you grow and evolve into a successful person.

It is a known fact that while smart goal setting, self sabotage can be detrimental. This destructive aspect of ourselves can be habit forming but thankfully can be overcome. By following the 3 step process outlined below, you will learn to:

  • finally resolve any inner conflicts which stand between you and getting what you desire;
  • easily translate any goals into a format that is easily understandable by all parts of your brain;
  • at last get 100% co-operation and focus on setting and achieving goals from the different parts of your brain; and
  • allow the memory of any past successes as building blocks to future successes.

Smart goal setting can be achieved using an unpretentious and clear-cut 3 step process that anyone can master. However, let me be clear. It does require

  • a great deal of detailed and honest self analysis, without which the entire process will fail;
  • an ability to follow exact instructions;
  • some quiet time alone to read, digest and implement and practice the exercises given, which of course is essential to develop the skills required for ultimate goal achieving.

Having said that, the 3 step formula for successful smart goal setting and implementation is summarised below.

  1. Begin with a setting that clearly (or vividly) represents what you desire. Put in as much detail as you possibly can and include as many of the senses into your vision such as sight, touch, sound, taste and smell. This will capture a goal that is understood by all parts of your un-conscious mind. This objective or goal must be so crystal clear when finished, that it will represent exactly what you want to 100% certainty.
  2. Then prioritize your goal so that you will stay unconsciously concentrated on it while you get on with your normal and everyday actions. This involves the identification of an “inner anchor point” to which all important information is attached in your internal self. This is an imaginary place, but one to which the unconscious can clearly relate. It is in this place that you can put visualizations and priority information you want the unconscious to focus on.
  3. Lastly, resolve any inner conflict that can inhibit you from smart goal setting and attaining your objectives. When you encounter anything other than happiness, a sense of fulfillment, peace, enthusiasm and high energy, you are encountering a “blocker”. It is key to identify this and resolve these blocker feelings when smart goal setting, before true goal achievement can take place.
